【INTENDED USE】
The Tuberculosis (TB) Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a rapid visual immunoassay for the qualitative presumptive detection of anti-TB antibodies (Isotypes IgG, IgM and IgA) in whole blood, serum or plasma specimens. This kit is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of Tuberculosis.
【INTRODUCTION】
Tuberculosis (TB) is spread primarily via airborne transmission of aerosolized droplets developed by coughing, sneezing and talking. Areas of poor ventilation pose the greatest risk of exposure to infection. TB is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, resulting in the greatest number of deaths due to a single infectious agent. The World Health Organization reports that more than 8 million new cases of active tuberculosis are diagnosed annually. Almost 3 million deaths are attributed to TB as well. Timely diagnosis is crucial to TB control, as it provides early initiation of therapy and limits further spread of infection. Several diagnostic methods for detecting TB have been used over the years including skin test, sputum smear, and sputum culture and chest x-ray. But all these methods have some limitations. Newer tests, such as PCR-DNA amplification or interferon-gamma assay, have been recently introduced. However, the turn-around time for these tests is long, they require laboratory equipment and skilled personnel, and some are neither cost effective nor easy to use. These tests are also expensive and not practical for developing countries. Serological methods constitute an attractive alternative, since TB serodiagnosis is simple, inexpensive, relatively non-invasive, and it does not depend on detection of mycobacteria.

【DIRECTION OF USE】
Bring tests, specimens, buffer and/or controls to room temperature (15- 30°C) before use.
1. Remove the test from its sealed pouch, and place it on a clean, level surface. Label the device with patient or control identification. For best results, the assay should be performed within one hour.
2. Transfer 1 drop of whole blood/serum/plasma into the sample well (S), then add 1 drop of Buffer, and start the timer. Avoid trapping air bubbles in the specimen well, and do not add any solution to the result window. As the test begins to work, color will migrate across the membrane.
3. Wait for the colored band(s) to appear. The result should be read within 15 minutes. Donot interpret after 20 minutes
【INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS】
POSITIVE: The presence of two lines as control line (C) and test line (T) within the result window indicates a positive result.
NEGATIVE: The presence of only control line (C) within the result window indicates a negative result. INVALID: If the control line (C) is not visible within the result window after performing the test, the result is considered invalid. Some causes of invalid results are because of not following the directions correctly or the test may have deteriorated beyond the expiration date. It is recommended that the specimen be re-tested using a new test.
FRQ:
1 | Can tuberculosis be cured? | Active, drug-sensitive TB disease is treated with a standard 6-month course of 4 antimicrobial drugs that are provided with information, supervision and support to the patient by a health worker or trained volunteer. The vast majority of TB cases can be cured when medicines are provided and taken properly. |
2 | What happens if you have tuberculosis? | Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that often infects the lungs. It may also affect the bones, spine, brain, lymph glands, and other parts of the body. Being infected with the TB bacteria is not the same as having active tuberculosis disease. There are 3 stages of TB: exposure, latent, and active disease. |
3 | Can tuberculosis be fatal? | People with active TB disease feel sick. They may also be able to spread the germs to people they spend time with every day. Without treatment, active TB disease can be fatal. |
4 | Can a person live with TB? | TB is an infection with the microbe Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which usually affects the lungs. When someone does not receive treatment, TB can be fatal. In fact, without treatment, the mortality rate is higher than 50% . It is the leading cause of death from infections worldwide. |
5 | Has anyone ever survived tuberculosis? | RESULTS: We found 12 studies with TB-specific mortality data. Ten-year survival was 69% in North America (95% CI 54–81) and 36% in Europe (95% CI 10–71). |
6 | Does anyone still get tuberculosis? | Without treatment, 1 in 10 of them will become sick with active TB disease, which is then highly contagious. In 2022, there were over 8,000 cases of TB in the United States, and TB was the second most infectious killer after COVID-19. Today, TB remains the 13th leading cause of death worldwide. |
7 | Is tuberculosis very serious? | Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection spread through inhaling tiny droplets from the coughs or sneezes of an infected person. It is a serious condition, but can be cured with proper treatment. TB mainly affects the lungs. However, it can affect any part of the body, including the glands, bones and nervous system. |
8 | How do you catch tuberculosis? | Tuberculosis can spread when a person with the illness coughs, sneezes or sings. This can put tiny droplets with the germs into the air. Another person can then breathe in the droplets, and the germs enter the lungs |
9 | What are the early warning signs of tuberculosis? | Common symptoms include: a cough that lasts more than 3 weeks – you may cough up mucus (phlegm) or mucus with blood in it. feeling tired or exhausted. a high temperature or night sweats. loss of appetite. weight loss. feeling generally unwell. |
10 | Is tuberculosis still a death sentence? | Once deemed as an incurable disease, tuberculosis, or TB, is a mostly curable health condition today. |
11 | How long do TB patients live? | A 2014 study found that, even after successful TB treatment, people who had the infection lost an average of 3.6 years of life expectancy compared to those who never had TB. Findings from a 2020 study note that, without treatment, TB can take an average of 7 years off of average life expectancy. |
12 | Can TB be transmitted through Kiss? | A person must be in close contact with someone with untreated TB disease of the lungs for a long period of time and needs to breathe in TB germs for infection to occur. TB is NOT spread by sharing silverware or cups, or sharing saliva when kissing someone. |
